Vimla Frank started her career in media at South Africa’s first national Indian radio station, Lotus FM in 1991. Starting as Secretary to the Station Manager, she quickly moved up the ranks to Public Relations Officer then Marketing Manager. During her 10 year tenure at the station she successfully re-positioned Lotus FM and helped grow its listenership from 200 000 to half-a-million listeners. She also initiated a marketing and sales support strategy that aided in making the station a profitable commercial enterprise.
She was appointed by MultiChoice, Africa's largest and only pay TV operator, in 2002 as the Manager of the Indian Bouquet. Vimla was then appointed Specialist Bouquets Manager, a position that expanded her portfolio to include the Portuguese Bouquet. During that time one of her key achievements was the re-alignment of the existing content within the bouquets and building them into a strong marketable offering. This included content management, the creation and implementation of a strong marketing and sales strategy, brand creation and positioning and subscriber acquisition.
WorldSpace Satellite Radio appointed Vimla as the General Manager of Sales & Marketing: Africa in July 2005. Her responsibilities included the positioning of WorldSpace as a dynamic presence in the satellite radio industry, building brand awareness and driving the acquisition of subscribers in Africa. Siemens appointed her as Media Sales Manager in 2009. Vimla is tasked with identifying new media opportunities and building the media business in South Africa.
